Teachers, like any other professionals, can sometimes become insensitive towards students emotionally or psychologically despite their best intentions. These instances often arise from a lack of awareness, unconscious biases, or miscommunication. One of the major forms in which these are represented is through language.
In order to sensitize our team about the role of language in inspiring and motivating our students through the conscious use of language, my colleague, Ms. Navami and I came up with a compilation of unconventional and often overlooked perspectives in Verbal Training titled Language Trends Manual for Conscious Use of Language that can help all teachers/trainers to introspect about the language that they are currently using and upgrade themselves to use language that is more sensitive and nurturing and not just high-sounding and grammatically correct.
The theme of the manual is Language of Respect and Acceptance, which is the need of the hour. Using sensitive, respectful, and accepting language is paramount in various contexts, such as interpersonal communication, professional settings, and public discourse. It is crucial to promote understanding, empathy, respect, and inclusivity in language to adapt to the needs of the current world. Using sensitive language as a conscious choice in classes will help teachers act as examples to their students, thus motivating the students to use such language themselves.
This manual can be used as a handbook by language teachers or anyone aspiring to be a more sensitive teacher/trainer/ mentor or coach.
